Pass Your Fortune - Typing Lesson Plan

Pass Your Fortune - Typing Lesson Plan

Purpose:  Provide students with engaging keyboarding practice in typing sentences.  Inject excitement and variety into the keyboarding classroom.   This activity will fill your keyboarding class with chuckles and lots of keyboarding energy.

Procedure:

  1. Hand out a fortune cookie to each student in the class.
  2. Encourage them to crack open their cookie and unveil their fortune.
  3. Ask students to write their names on the back of the fortune paper.
  4. Instruct them to type their name followed by the fortune message in a blank document using a word processing program (e.g., Microsoft Word or Google Docs).
  5. Begin the keyboarding fun by having students pass their fortunes to the next person to type in.
  6. Set a lively timer or play upbeat background music to keep the energy high during the passing process.
  7. Encourage students to practice good keyboarding technique as they type each fortune.
  8. The fortunes are passed around the class for each student to type until every student receives their original fortune back.
  9. Once all fortunes have been typed in, select one or two enthusiastic students to read the fortunes and the corresponding names aloud to the class.

Materials Needed:  One fortune cookie per student.  Word processing program (Microsoft Word or Google Docs).  Lively timer or upbeat background music.

Time Required: 25+ minutes

KeyMaster® Variation:

Use the KeyMaster® Learning Lights Keyboard and add to the challenge of the activity.  After each fortune is passed, ask the students to blackout 3-5 keys.  Repeat until the entire keyboard is blank.
